Air Filters

An air filter removes dust and dirt particles from the air stream being ingested by the engine. The addition of a performance air filter has numerous benefits:
  • Increases Overall Engine Horsepower
  • Protects Your Engine
  • Boosts Your fuel Efficiency

Belts & Hoses

Car belts are some of the least expensive parts of your car, but they are very important to your car's health and performance. Car belts are made out of rubber, and therefore they eventually crack and wear out.

Brake Service

Brakes are just about the most important safety device on your car. If you've even partially lost your brakes in the past, you'll never want to go through that again. Inspecting your brakes twice a year for wear and damage can protect you and your passengers while saving you money.

Car Batteries

At one time or another, everyone has had problems with a car that won't start. Keeping your battery charged and replacing it when it wears out is important to the operation of your vehicle.

Cooling System

A car cooling system is a self-contained system that uses radiator fluid and/or water under pressure to cool a car's engine. The cooling system is made up of a thermostat, radiator, water pump, and coolant hoses.

Before replacing any battery due to a failure, have the battery and the car's electrical system tested for proper functioning. Replacing a dead battery only to have another a few weeks later due to a weak alternator or a parasitic drain on the system, is not only frustrating but can be expensive and dangerous.

Engine Tune-up

If regular maintenance and inspection aren't performed on your engine, your vehicle may not be operating as reliably or efficiently as it should. A well-tuned engine operates at maximum performance levels.

Fuel Filters

Dirt is the #1 enemy of your engine's fuel system. Even the smallest piece of dirt can damage a fuel injector, resulting in erratic performance, poor gas mileage, and, in some cases, complete engine shutdown. A clean fuel filter is one of the best ways to ensure dependable, trouble-free performance.

Light Bulbs

It is not hard to realize the importance of light bulbs in your car. This ranges from safety with your headlamps and signaling lamps to convenient interior lighting.

Missouri State Emissions/Safety

The Gateway Vehicle Inspection Program is part of Missouri’s continuing effort to improve air quality in the St. Louis region. Mr. J's Auto Repair Center has trained and certified Missouri State inspectors on staff to help you comply with Missouri vehicle safety and emission laws.

Oil Change

Over time, oil breaks down due to use and exposure to heat. Your oil becomes less effective at lubricating, which causes engine parts to rub against one another. What your manufacturer recommends and how frequently you drive your car will determine how often you need an oil change.

Tire Balancing

Wheel balance is checked on a wheel balancing machine that can sense as little as 1/4 ounce difference in weight around the wheel. That tiny amount of weight is traveling hundreds of times a minute around the axle and creates enough momentum to cause serious vibration. And when you multiply by four wheels, the wobble really adds up. Unbalanced tires put uneven pressure on the treads. Tires get too hot and wear unevenly. Tire imbalance can also strain the wheel bearings and suspension system.

Tire Installation

Tires wear out eventually. It is important to replace them before they fail, because this can cause safety issues and leave you stranded on the side of the road.

Tire Rotation

Most vehicle and tire manufacturers recommend rotating your tires every 5,000 to 6,000 miles. Front-wheel drive, rear wheel drive, and four-wheel drive will all cause the tires on the front or back to wear differently. Periodic rotation is key to making sure the front tires don't wear out before the rear tires or vice versa.

Transmission Fluid

Just like your engine, your transmission needs proper lubrication. Transmission fluid, just like oil, breaks down over time and needs to be changed.

Transmission Filters

Over time your transmission's metal parts that come in contact with one another wear. This causes tiny metal shavings and particles to break-off in the transmission fluid. Your transmission filter traps these tiny particles so that they don't jam the transmission. Transmission filters will eventually become clogged and need replacement.

Wheel Alignment

Wheel alignment refers to the angles at which your tires address the road when you are driving. Potholes and other vibrations cause changes in alignment angles of the wheels to the road. They need to be "brought back into adjustment" from time to time to prevent wear and balding of tires. If a vehicle is "out-of-alignment" it may not steer straight when you have the steering wheel centered, or the steering wheel may not return to a centered position after a turn. Sometimes steering and suspension parts need to be replaced or repaired before a wheel alignment can be done.

Wiper Blades

Wiper blades wear out over time. They, like tires, are made of rubber. Most of the time you don't notice until it starts to rain or snow. Replace them when it looks like the wipers aren't keeping your windshield clear enough to see.

Sometimes your vehicle can break-down when you least expect it or when you need it the most. We know that when your vehicle needs repairs, you worry about the cost, you're frustrated with the inconvenience and wishing you could just get on the road again. We understand, and we want to provide auto repair services that are guaranteed to fix your car the first time, won't break your budget, and will get you back on the road again in no time; all done in a friendly, comfortable atmosphere.
